  Chapter 1

I twisted the curl within my fingers, while smiling brightly as I chatted into my phone. I dropped the curl and leaned over slightly, sending him a nice view of my cleavage. I ran my finger across my collarbone and flicked my hair back.

Arching my soft bare neck slightly more, showing him my soft creamy skin. I laughed lightly into the phone, not really paying attention to the conversation I was meant to be having with Daniel. I was too busy putting my plan into action.

My off-the-shoulder sleeve slid further down my arm. Pretending to be deep in conversation, I traced down my bra strap slowly. I let out a little sigh, as I feigned thinking about something.

I bit softly down on my bottom lip. And now for the finale. Slowly I dragged my finger from my bra strap and played with the chain that hung in between my breasts, turning the pedant slowly in my fingers.

I laughed softly and beamed my flawless smile. “Really, Dan, I can’t stay tonight. Not after last night—”

“Class is about to start, Chloe. Phone away.”

My long eyelashes flashed up at him. I kept control over my breathing, not letting my heartbeat accelerate like it normally does. Titling my head to the side and looking up at him.

“Sorry, Dan. I have to go. I’ll see you soon,” I sang slowly into the phone.

I closed my phone, having little intention of seeing Dan soon. “Sorry, Mr. Clark.”

Xavier looked furious as he stood at my desk. His fists were clenched and his eyes were narrow. I shrugged my shoulders innocently. “It won’t happen again.”

He hated it when I called him Mr. Clark, though he was my teacher; and he was the one who said he couldn’t have a relationship with me. He was the one denying me.

The bell chimed and other students began to file in. I was lucky enough to have already had first hour in here, so I knew that I could just wait out the gap between modules. I had ignored him when he had entered and just pretended like he wasn’t there.

I had the aim to get under his skin. And by the way his jaw was set, his fists clenched and his eyes fading back to their emerald shade, it had worked.

“Chloe, you will not believe what I just heard!” Olivia spluttered as she took the seat next to me, which just happened to be at the front of the class.

  “What?”

“That you stayed at Dan’s last night!” she squealed.

“Tell me something I don’t know. And why did you expect me not to have heard that?” raising an eyebrow at her, while being well aware of Xavier’s glaring eyes.

  “So it’s true!”

I laughed lightly. “Yes.” I nodded my head to a few people as they walked past, sending a small hello my way.

Olivia’s mouth dropped open and she looked at me with awe. If only she knew the truth. I had only stayed at Dan’s because my mother and father didn’t feel like travelling back into town. My family was close friends with his. In all honesty, the night was a complete bore and Dan spent most of it online with his mates playing Call of Duty.

“Well, where did you sleep?” she plied.

I shrugged my shoulders. “In his bed of course. Where else?”

At this point, I could push her over with a feather. She was that shocked. I had slept in his bed, while he stayed on the couch playing Xbox.

Olivia shook her head. “You are telling me you stayed at Dan’s, in Dan’s bed! Why am I only hearing this now?”

  “I haven’t seen you today.”

  “Hey, Chloe!”

I turned my head so that I could face Scott behind me, Dan’s best mate. Dan hadn’t come to school today. I think the whole not sleeping all night thing was the reason.

I arched an eyebrow as Scott leaned over his desk to speak to me.

“Heard about you and Dan.” Scott wiggled his eyebrows. “So what do you think of his bed?” he said, with a double meaning and I knew it; the large cheeky grin on his baby face gave it away easily.

I let my cheeks heat up, as if I would really blush about sleeping in Dan’s bed; I had to at least act embarrassed. But sleeping in Dan’s bed wouldn’t bring a blush to my face. So instead I thought of the first time Xavier and I met, which was in gym class, his gym class.

I had tripped over a skipping rope and landed face first into the mud on the oval. I had only tripped in the first place because I was too busy staring at him and all his handsomeness.

“YOU’RE BLUSHING!” Scott yelled, sending every pair of eyes at me. My cheeks turned a slighter darker red at the sudden attention. Well at least it looked like I was blushing because of Dan.

“CLASS, ENOUGH!” Xavier dropped a few large health books onto his desk; his stern face and aura of aggression sent the room in silence.

I turned back in my seat to face him. God, he was handsome. His strong jaw line framed his tanned face. His emerald eyes were narrowed and consumed with jealousy. Jealousy that I had inflamed, a small smirk twitched at my lips.

His blonde hair fell across his face. His body was muscular and fit; I could go on forever, drooling over his every feature. But to put it simply—he could fog a mirror, he was that hot.

And I didn’t just think this because he w
as my mate—no, I think every female with a pair of eyes felt the same way.

“I hate theory.” Scott grumbled behind me, and a small smile twitched at my lips. Because I really didn’t care whether we did theory or prac; gym was gym.

“Everyone turn to page 4. Copy the chart out and then label it.” Xavier shot over his shoulder, as he copied the directions onto the board.

Flipping my book open, I glanced at the page; the assignment was easy. But I didn’t want to do it. Not because I couldn’t, but because he had set it.

There was a soft knock on the door before it slid open. Glancing up through my loose black curls, I watched as the principal stood with authority at the front of the class.

“Sorry for the interruption, Mr. Clark. I just need to pass something along.” With that the principal walked directly to my desk and stood over me.

“Seeing as you didn’t come to the office and collect this yesterday, Chloe, as I asked, I am personally handing it to you.” The principal placed a sealed white envelope on my desk. “I am very disappointed in you, Chloe, and I think I speak for your parents too.”

He turned his back to me, nodding to Mr. Clark before leaving the room. Great! More attention. Shooting my head over my shoulder, I saw everyone staring at the envelope on my desk. I turned in my seat and faced Xavier. He too was frowning at the letter on my desk.

I pushed it to the side and turned my attention back to the textbook.

“Aren’t you going to open it?” Olivia hissed beside me.

I shrugged my shoulders. “Does it really matter?”

“Seriously, Chloe. Open it,” she hissed, her words clearly audible in the silent classroom. I think everyone wanted to know what it said. It’s not every day the principal walks in to the class, saying he was disappointed, and hands you your fate.

“We are meant to be doing the activity,” I shot back.

She narrowed her eyes at me.

“Fine. Here.” I tossed the letter to her desk. “Seeing you’re so interested.”

I glanced at Xavier; his eyes were narrow as he watched me. I raised an eyebrow, and felt like saying, stare at someone else, but I wasn’t in the mood.

Hearing the ripping of paper, I turned my head slightly to watch Olivia. Her eyes widened, as they darted across the letter she was reading. Then her mouth dropped and she looked between the letter and me.

  “Oh my god, Chloe.”

Letting out a sigh, I leaned back in my seat.

“What does it say?” Scott asked, leaning over to look at the letter.

Olivia swallowed hard. “You’re being expelled.”

The room echoed with gasps and then whispers.

  “As of when?” I asked.

“It reads that your lack of commitment and effort in class has reflected poorly on your grades. And you are expelled as of Monday next week, unless you wish to try and pull your grades up by the end of the semester.”

I sighed and got up from my seat. That wasn’t going to happen. Like I could pull my grades up by then. “Well, I guess I don’t have to do this then.” I closed the textbook and scooped up my books.

“See you this weekend,” I said.

“Chloe, you could try! Like you can’t give up.” Olivia panicked, the letter in her hand.

I just shrugged my shoulders. “Whatever.”

Stopping at Xavier’s desk, I dropped the textbook on his table. “I won’t be needing this anymore, Mr. Clark.”

I turned by back and walked towards the door.

  “Class isn’t over, Chloe.”

“Whatever.” I slid the door open and walked out, leaving it open, as I walked down the hallway.

The funny thing was that I used to be a model student, the captain of the volleyball team, the volunteer, and I had a flawless academic record. I was shy. I would never go out. I didn’t drink and I would never defy my parents.

I was a good girl, the daughter of the great alpha; but that was before I met him. That was before my 18th birthday, when he had denied me as his mate, after leading me on with hope for months and his reason for denying me—I wasn’t ready.

Nice of him to decide that for me, right?

  Chapter 2

I opened my front door and tossed my school bag to the side of the foyer. You know you’re not from a normal home when you are greeted by a large tan wolf pacing the living room, even more dysfunctional when you know that wolf is your father.

Looks like someone got a phone call from the school; was I not trusted to pass the letter on? A sly smile crept on my face, when I remembered I hadn’t even gotten it back from Olivia.

  “Afternoon, Daddy!”

I ignored his low growl as I walked through our enormous living room, past him and in the direction of the kitchen.

I heard his jaws snap behind me, but there was no way in hell I was changing so he could speak to me. The one good thing about the pack’s mind link is it was only in place when we were in wolf form. Thank god.

Pulling the fridge door open and grabbing a bottle of water. “I’m going to go to the gym and work on my fitness.” Turning around I watched his eyes narrow at me. His whole body filled the large doorframe.

I could hear dull footsteps above me. The thing that sucked about being the daughter of an alpha was we lived in the pack house. Think of a mansion, then blow it up three times as big; and that, my friend, is the pack house.

It’s on the outskirts of town and not all the pack live here; but nearly everyone has a room if they want it. It’s like a hotel, but I don’t get the pleasure of kicking anyone out at checkout time.

“I guess I will speak to you when you calm down.” I said lightly in my father’s direction as I walked towards the door. But I froze when a scent hit my nose.

Looked like I wasn’t getting out of it that easy.

“CHLOE! Explain to us why you’re being expelled!”

Turning around, I watched as my red-faced mother walked through the swinging kitchen doors.

“Look, it’s not my fault. It just happened!” I yelled in my defense.

“Dropping your grades down to the point of expulsion doesn’t just happen!”

I threw my hands up in the air. “What do you want me to do?”

My mother shook her head in disbelief. Her short black hair whipped across her neck. “I cannot believe you, Chloe! You use to be a perfect student.”

“Yeah, and I use to play with Barbies. But, ya know, things change.”

“What are we going to do with you?”

I shrugged my shoulders. “You guys are the parents.”

My mother scoffed and threw herself onto a bar stool. “Thanks for the reminder.”

I rolled my eyes. “What do you want me to say?”

“That you will at least try. We spoke to the principal and he has given you to the end of the semester to pull your grades up. We have really had to pull favors for this, Chloe. So please say you will try.”

I raised my hands. “No way am I going back! I already did my whole dramatic exit from the place. Please, please, do not make me go back!”

My mom arched both eyebrows and I heard my father snap his teeth together.

“Chloe, you are going back, as of Monday.”

  “But the letter said—”

“And we said you are going back and you are going to TRY!”

I threw my head back and glared at the ceiling. I knew it was too good to be true! What’s the point of expulsion if your parents can make a phone call and reverse it!

“But I don’t want to!!” I stamped my foot. “It’s pointless, it’s not like I am actually planning on using my stupid diploma anyway!”

“Oh that’s right, Chloe. Remind us again of your future plans. Oh that’s right, you don’t have any.”

I crossed my arms. “Well, I want to travel.”

“And that’s a career move right there.” My mother shot at me, while tapping her
fingers on the bench.

“I don’t need a career. I plan to live here forever, because that’s what a pack house is for. And then when Chad takes over as alpha, I plan to continue to leech off him.”

Chad was my older brother and was next in line to be alpha. (Sucked to be him.)

My father let out a low growl.

“Great, our daughter the pack leech.” My mother rolled her eyes. “What an achievement.”

“Better than the pack whore or something.” I arched an eyebrow and sent her a taunting smile. “Anyway, life’s short. No point wasting time with my head in the books! There are places to see, people to meet and drinks to scull.”

My mother slapped her palm against her forehead. “Are you hearing this, Jeremy?” My mother tossed a look in my father’s direction. “And we thought she was going to be the easy one!” She shook her head slightly.

“So it’s settled? Awesome, I’m going to the gym.” I turned my back on them, with my fingers crossed.

“Monday comes, Chloe, and you are back at school. The places, people and drinks can wait.”

I uncrossed my fingers. Whoever said that it brought good luck was extremely wrong.

  *

I opened my bedroom window and glanced down at the drop. Good thing I was a wolf. I smiled slightly as the night breeze whipped into my room. Tonight was going to be epic, or at least I hoped it would be.

The soft knocking on my door brought a frown to my face. I walked to the door and cracked it open slightly, so that the packed bags on my bed wouldn’t be in view.

“What are you doing here?” I narrowed my eyes at Xavier as he stood outside my door in all his glory.

“You’re parents said you needed help with your schooling.” He shoved his hands in his pockets, his eyes on the hallway carpet.

“And, of course, they phoned you.” I rolled my eyes.

  “Well, I am a teacher.”

“A gym and health teacher.” I cracked the door open slightly more and brought my other hand to the doorframe. “Anyway, it would be unprofessional of you to give me extra time. I’m just another one of your students.”

Xavier let out a sigh and his emerald eyes locked with mine. “Stop being difficult, Chloe.”

If he thought this was difficult, wait till he saw what I had in mind for his classes for the next month.
